American College of Sports Medicine Names Professor Dave Verrill to National Committee
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Committee on Certification & Registry Boards has elected Dave Verill to be their Academician for Clinical Exercise Testing and Prescription. In this role, Professor Verrill will assist ACSM with certification initiatives and exam development for Clinical Exercise Physiologists, a master’s level certification for individuals working to enhance the physical, social, and economic independence of patients through risk reduction behavior change. Clinical Exercise Physiologists work in a variety of specialty clinical settings (e.g., cardiac rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation) and are an integral part of our healthcare system. This appointment is recognition of Professor Verrill’s extensive leadership efforts in the rehabilitation field. He has previously served as President of ACSM’s Clinical Exercise Physiology Association and is a fellow of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. He has served over 20 years as a clinical exercise physiologist/lab director and has contributed to many articles, chapters, and textbooks that prepare students for certification and rehabilitation leadership.
