APHCS Community Partner receives Excellence in Community Service Award

Sharon Towers, longtime community partner to the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, & Clinical Sciences, received an Excellence in Community Service award presented by LeadingAge North Carolina. Sharon Towers partners with UNC Charlotte, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the Community Health Clinic to provide free health screenings to older adults. In particular, Sharon Towers works with the APHCS Health Risk Assessment Program to fund seven UNC Charlotte graduate assistants to work at local senior centers to conduct assessments and to promote life-long movement and activity. This program, led by Dr. Trudy Moore-Harrison, a Clinical Assistant Professor in APHCS, invests in our community and collaborations with organizations such as Sharon Towers impacts our region and our students.
