Inabnit Named Top Respiratory Therapy Educator in North Carolina
UNC Charlotte kinesiology professor Lanny Inabnit has been named top educator in the state for 2017 by the North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care (NCSRC). Inabnit is the recipient of NCSRC Gail Gane Educator of the Year Award, which honors an individual who has made significant contributions to and exemplified outstanding service and leadership in respiratory therapy education.
A clinical assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, he serves as a program coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BS RT). As an online instructor, Inabnit notes that it is especially important that he be connected and available to students.
“Our students need to feel like I am there for them anytime of the day,” he said. “I try and communicate with them regularly and I always let them know that I am here to help.”
Prior to his appointment at UNC Charlotte, Inabnit worked as a staff respiratory therapists and department educator at two local Charlotte hospitals. He served as a member of the Respiratory Therapy faculty at Stanly Community College in Albemarle, North Carolina for nine years. Inabnit currently serves as the Vice President of the North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care.
He will be recognized during at the annual NCSRC state meeting with a plaque commemorating the award.
